What is Open Write 32?
A. OPEN Write 32 is a simple yet powerful software tool that replaces
the computer keyboard with your steno machine. Virtually any typing
or keyboard command can be executed directly from your steno machine.
In addition, you'll have the ability to operate any Windows 7/XP/2000/ME/98 application,
such as Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, Excel, even the Internet, with
the speed and ease of your steno machine. All menu commands, including
macros, are only a steno stroke away. There has never been an easier
software application that provides this much flexibility and compatibility.

Why is it called Open Write 32?
A. Open Write 32 is a 32-bit Windows 7/XP/2000/ME/98/NT application.
That means it uses the latest 32-bit PC technology and easy to use
interfaces.

How difficult is it for non-technical people to use Open Write 32?
A. Open Write 32 has been designed with ease of use in mind. It
starts out with a Setup Wizard which will walk you through connecting
your steno machine and importing any dictionaries you want to use.
It is our experience that new users are able to sit down and start
using Open Write 32 almost immediately.

What types of dictionaries can I import into Open Write 32?
A. Open Write 32 has the ability to import dictionaries from RTF-CRE,
StenoCAT 4.x, Premier Power, and XEC2001 formats.

What applications does Open Write 32 work with?
A. Open Write 32 will allow you to write real-time and perform keyboard
commands from your steno machine with virtually any application
running under Windows 7/XP/2000/ME/98. Open Write 32 even works with DOS applications
running under Windows 95.

You state that Open Write is a true 32-bit application. What is
the
difference between a 32-bit application for Windows 95/NT and a
16-bit application that runs under Windows 7/XP/2000/ME/98/NT?
A. A true 32-bit application is designed to take advantage of a
better architecture and is typically faster and more powerful. From
a developer standpoint, the tools with which software is created
are no longer being upgraded for 16-bit products. All new tools
in software development are designed to create 32-bit applications.
What this means to you is that 16-bit software can not take advantage
of new technology. In essence, 16-bit products are already obsolete.
This is why, at Gigatron we have committed to developing all new
products as 32-bit exclusively.
Q.
Will Open Write 32 work on my PC?
A. Yes if your PC is running a Windows 95 or newer. It takes about
15-20 MB of space on the hard drive and the PC must have a CD drive.
The recommended system is a Pentium 100 MHz or better with 16MB
RAM or more and a 1 Gigabyte hard drive or larger.
