Court reporting education can be gruesome. From the very first day of class, students are experiencing the frustration of learning a new language -- the machine shorthand language. Once they learn the language, they are then given the responsibility of developing their speed so that they can write verbatim what is being said by the participants. During this journey, frustration can set in as students plateau at certain speed levels. This frustration can cause students not to practice. Without practice, speed does not develop.
